| HISTORY : The Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman is one of the youngest universities in Iran. The university ranks among the 8 top Iranian universities for its educational and research activities as well as its design and developement.The generous founder of the university, the late Mr. Alireza Afzalipour, donated almost all of his wealth to establish this scientific center. This would have been almost impossible in a remote region like Kerman, if it were not for his vision and enthusiasm. The university was granted permission to be established on August 9,1972 and started its academic activities formally in 1975, in 3 disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, and English; with 10 faculty members and 70 students. The university is located in the south eastern part of Kerman, in an area of 500 hectares. At the present time, it has an enrollment of about 12500 students who are studying and doing research in 16 colleges and research institutes of the university. There is about 140,000 square meters physical space availble. There are about 100 different disciplines available for the students to choose from, which offers programs leading to B.A., B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc., D.V.M.,or Ph.D. degrees.There are 400 faculty members, and 1000 regular employees at the university. Academic And Research Organization : College of Agriculture : This college was established in 1982, and at the present time has about 1602 students and 39 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Agricultural Economics. Department of Agricultural Machinery. Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding. Department of Animal Sciences. Department of Irrigation. Department of Plant Protection. College of Engineering : This college was established in 1975, and at the present time has about 2997 students and 69 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Civil Engineering. Department of Chemical Engineering. Department of Computer Engineering. Department of Electrical Engineering. Department of Industrial Engineering. Department of Mechanical Engineering. Department of Metallurgical Engineering. Department of Mining Engineering. College of Literature and Human Sciences: This college was established in 1977, and at the present time has about 1507 students and 75 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Education and Psychology. Department of English Language & Literature. Department of Islamic Science. Department of Library and Information Science. Department of Persian Language and Literature. Department of Social Science. College of Basic Science: This college was established in 1975, and at the present time has about 1739 students and 67 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Biology. Department of Chemistry. Department of Geology. Department of Physics. College of Veterinary: This college was established in 1989, and at the present time has about 300 students and 22 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Basic Sciences. Department of Clinical Studies. Department of Food Hygiene & Public Health. Department of Pathobiology. College of Art: This School was established in 1989, and at the present time has about 155 students and 20 faculty mcmbers, and has the following departments: Department of Architecture. Department of Traditional Arts. Department of Restoration of Historical Buildings. Department of Painting. Department of Carpet. college of Mathematics and Computer Science : This college was established in 1995, and has the following departments : Departments of Mathematics. Department of Statistics. Department of Computer Science. College of Management and Economics: This School was established in 1995, and at the present time has about 636 students and 16 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Accounting. Department of Economics. Department of Management. College of Physical Education and Sport Science : This school was established in 1984, and at the present time has about 400 students and 17 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Physical Education. The following schools located in other cities of Kerman province, are branches of the University: Faculty of Higher Education in Bam : This school was established in 1994, and at the present time has about 150 students and 6 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Mathematics. Faculty of Agriculture in Jiroft : This school was established in 1990, and at the present time has about 350 students and 8 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Agricultural Machinery. Department of Animal Production Technology. Department of Plant Production Technology. Faculty of Technology in Sirjan : This school was established in 1992, and at the present time has about 184 students and 10 faculty members, and has the following departments: Department of Civil Engineering. Department of Mechanical Engineering. Faculty of Mining in Zarand : This school was established in 1992,and at the present time has about 160 students and 13 faculty members, and has the following department: Department of Mining. University Research Centers : Mahani Mathematics Research Center. Social Science Research Center. Mining Industry Research Center. Horticulture and Dates Research Center. Graduate Degree Programs : At present 350 students are studying at the Master level in physics, chemistry, geology, mathematics, biology, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Persian literature, and sociology. Also, 380 students are studying at the Doctoral level in Mathematics, Veterinary Medicine, Physics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Geology. University Graduates Up to the present time 5500 students have been graduated from this university, including the first three Ph.D. students in Mathematics in Iran . University Services : There are about 150,000 books available in the Main Library, and also other libraries in the university. The library system is computerized in the Main Library and it is expected that all libraries will be connected by a network in future. Student Life, Activities, and Services : Living Accommodations : The housing program at Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman is based on the concept that there is a relationship between the students living environment and the achievement of his educational goals as well as the development of personal and social maturity. University residence Halls house 2500 men and women with facilities such as prayer rooms, study rooms, T .V. rooms, bakery , taxi services, photo shop, news- stand, tele-communication center, student food services, and many other facilities. Future Planning 0f University: The construction of the first and second administration buildings. The completion and development of the colleges of engineering, agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, physical education, with the expansion of Natural Sciences Building and the college of letter. The completion of the School of Agriculture in Jiroft. The construction of a Veterinary Hospital. One of the most important tending matters is the promotion of Masters and Doctorates degrees. |
